Six decades after Independence, Corruption has taken a centre stage. A series of scandals and scams, particularly at the higher level, has attracted the attention of the common man. The middle class, which was hitherto docile to social movements, has come out on streets in support of anti-corruption movement. In this background, the Lokpal Bill has assumed importance. Though Lokpal has a history of over four decades, it has never seen the light of the day. In spite of successive attempts to enact a law against corruption, it has failed. However, the movement for Lokpal under the leadership of Anna Hazare has attracted world wide attention. While the civil society has come out with its version of Jan Lokpal, the Government has framed its own draft bill. The two versions differ on various grounds and the need for striking a balance is left. This book intends to address the basics of the two versions of the Lokpal Bill.
